What's it all about?
Ever wonder what's the point of the things that are happening in your life right now? These next few months for our church's adult bible study group we are studying about Ecclesiastes. There is some good stuff in there. Do you ever stop to think about all the crazy stuff that this world says you need to have to be happy? Money, nice cars, nice clothes, a nice house, etc. Now, there's nothing wrong with having those things, but they definitely won't matter in heaven. As the saying goes, you can't take it with you. If you are born with a gift such as the skilled hands of a surgeon, then the money you make is definitely something you are entitled to. I wonder sometimes, though, if those of us(like me) who don't make a lot of money, but have enough to live a very comfortable lifestyle when compared to the majority of people in the world, are working ourselves too much to gain material things. Yes, it's nice to have a decent life. But at what point do you stop and say, is it really worth my time to make more money if I don't have enough time to spend with my family? My question to you is, are we sacrificing the most important resource we have as a nation, our family time, so that we can pursue the almighty dollar because everyone else is doing it? I want you to think about what is most important to you and then decide for yourself what you will do with your time. If you enjoy reading a good book, I would suggest The Man in the Mirror by Patrick Morley. This issue has really come home to me more recently because I now have someone who is my responsibility and I refuse to waste my time keeping up with the Joneses if it means sacrificing time I could spend watching my boy grow up.
